Ovation Upsell help

Showing Ovation on four more pages

The Thank you and Order status pages, and two cards for your own product and order pages.

Shopify lets an app show things on these pages but never place itself there, so each one is a block you add yourself, once. None of this changes the post-purchase page, which runs on its own as soon as Ovation is turned on and has an offer.

In Ovation, Settings then Blocks on your pages lists every page Ovation shows on under Where Ovation shows, each with its state in words, and Home shows the same list once setup is done. A Thank you or Order status page reads Block placed or Block not placed yet. When you have active offers and none of them runs on one of those two pages, it reads Not used if its block is not there. A page reads Block placed from the first time its block appears, in the editor or for a customer. Removing a block later does not reset it.

The Thank you and Order status pages

After paying, a customer lands on the Thank you page, and comes back to the Order status page later to follow their order. Ovation’s block on each of them shows the first of the offers you set to run on that page that matches the order just placed, by what was bought or because it shows after every order. It steps through at most the first 3 products of that offer’s list.

These two pages cannot add anything to the order that was just paid for. So the button on the block opens a new cart with the product in it, and the customer pays for it as a second order. Under the button they read This starts a new order, paid separately., in their own language. You cannot turn that line off, and it is why the button is honest.

Add the two blocks

  1. In your Shopify admin, open Settings → Checkout and click Customize. That opens the checkout and accounts editor. It is not the theme customizer, and Ovation shows nothing there.
  2. Open the Apps panel from the left sidebar and find Ovation next-order offer.
  3. Add Ovation offer on the Thank you page to the Thank you page, and Ovation offer on the Order status page to the Order status page. Each block goes on its own page, so this is two placements. Then Save.

In Ovation, Settings then Thank you and Order status pages has an Open the checkout editor button that opens the editor for you, and says in a sentence for each page whether the block is on it yet.

Which offers show there

  • Every offer has a switch for each of the three pages, under Where it shows. Turn one off and that offer skips that page; your other offers are unaffected.
  • An offer that sets Ships to does not appear on these two pages. Shopify answers that question on the post-purchase page only.
  • An offer that sets Order value does not appear on these two pages for an order paid in a currency other than yours, because they do not give Ovation the order total in your currency. It still shows on the post-purchase page.
  • A product you sell on subscription only is skipped on these two pages, because they add a product through a cart link, which cannot carry a subscription. It still shows on the post-purchase page, and the offer’s page warns you when this happens.
  • An offer with Show a countdown on the offer on is skipped on these two pages for a customer who already saw its countdown on the post-purchase page, because it told them the offer ends when they leave that page. If another offer matches the order, that one shows instead.
  • A product the customer declined on the post-purchase page is not offered again on these two pages for the same order. When they declined every product of the offer that matches, the block shows nothing, even if an offer checked after it would also match. An offer that sells the best pairing for each order offers the next product instead. A customer who left that page without answering has declined nothing.
  • When no offer is left to show, the block shows nothing at all. That is the block working rather than failing. In the checkout editor, where there is no real order, it shows a sample marked as a preview so you can see where it sits.

The discount on the new cart

On the post-purchase page Ovation applies your offer’s discount itself. A new cart can only carry a discount code, so name one if you want the saving to reach these two pages:

  • For every offer, in Settings, under Thank you and Order status pages: Discount code for the new cart.
  • For one offer, under Where it shows on that offer: Discount code for those two pages. Left blank, it uses the code from Settings.

The code has to exist in Shopify already, under Discounts. Ovation cannot check what it takes off, so make it match the saving the offer shows. With no code on the offer and none for the whole store, these two pages show the offer at its full price and no saving, because that is what the new cart charges. With only the store-wide code, they show the saving, which Ovation cannot verify, and the offer's Where it shows step warns about it. An offer that sells the best pairing for each order shows the saving only once the offer's new cart confirms the code covers the product chosen, which needs Exact prices in other currencies turned on, and the full price otherwise.

The block’s words and look

In Settings, under Thank you and Order status pages, you set the block’s headline, an optional second line, the photo, the price and saving, and the words on the button, with a preview beside them. The colours and the type come from your checkout branding, as they do on the rest of those pages. Shopify decides how wide the block is; you decide where it goes, in the checkout editor.

These two pages do not count toward your plan. Only the post-purchase page does. Analytics counts them apart, once per order: how many orders were offered something on each page, how many customers clicked the button, and how many of the orders that button opened were paid for and what they sold. The offers list shows the same sales behind the (i) beside each offer’s Added to orders figure, and as that figure, in grey, for an offer that runs only on these two pages.

Your product and order pages in the Shopify admin

Two cards for you rather than your customers. They show inside your own Shopify admin, on the page of a product or an order.

  • Ovation offer usage, on a product’s page, lists every offer that uses that product, so you can see before you edit or unpublish it whether an offer depends on it.
  • Ovation on this order, on an order’s page, says what Ovation did on that order: which offer was shown, whether the customer took it, or why nothing was shown.

Add a card

  1. Open Products in your Shopify admin and click any product. For the order card, open Orders and click any order.
  2. Scroll to the Blocks section at the bottom of that page and click + Block.
  3. Pick Ovation offer usage on a product, or Ovation on this order on an order. Pinning it afterwards is up to you, and makes no difference to what Ovation can see.
