Plans and billing

What your plan counts, what it does not, and what happens at the cap.

What your plan counts

Ovation counts Offers shown: post-purchase pages it answered with an offer, over a rolling 30 days. Analytics shows the same count for its last 30 days, except that your own test orders count toward your plan, while Analytics leaves them out. It is not a count of your orders:

  • A page Ovation had nothing to show on is not counted.
  • An order that never reaches the post-purchase page, such as one paid with Apple Pay, PayPal, Klarna or a gift card, is not counted.
  • Offers on the Thank you and Order status pages are not counted. Only the post-purchase page is.
  • A page the cap held back is not counted.

The plans

There are seven plans: Free, Standard, Boost, Growth, Pro, Scale and Unlimited. Every plan has every feature, including A/B tests, collection triggers, the countdown, date and order-value rules, both kinds of discount and several products per offer. They differ in price and in how many offers shown they cover. Unlimited has no cap.

Plans in Ovation shows each plan’s price and cap, monthly or yearly. It also suggests a plan from how many orders your store took in the last 30 days, leaving out your test orders. On the free plan, when it already covers that many orders, the page suggests the cheapest paid plan instead. The suggestion is only that: you can pick any plan.

Plans are billed by Shopify, on your Shopify invoice. Choosing one opens Shopify’s own plan page, where you pick the plan and approve the charge. Moving to another plan, or back to the free plan, is done on that page too, and Shopify brings you back to Ovation when you are done.

Free days after you install

For the first 14 days after you first install Ovation, nothing is capped, whatever plan you are on. The free plan’s cap applies once they are used up.

What happens at the cap

  • On the free plan, once the free days are used up, offers on the post-purchase page pause when the store has shown as many as the plan covers in the rolling window. The Thank you and Order status blocks keep showing, because they are not counted. Customers go straight to the Thank you page until older pages drop out of the window or you choose a paid plan, which starts them again straight away. Home says so as soon as it happens, and the Plans page says when offers start again on their own.
  • On a paid plan, nothing stops. Your offers keep showing, and the Plans page tells you that you went over. Moving up is worth it if that keeps happening.
  • On a development store, nothing pauses and nothing is charged, whatever the plan. The Plans page shows the count as Not metered and says what any other store on the same plan would do.

Home warns you under What needs you when a store on the free plan is getting close to its cap, before anything pauses.

Changing plan

You can change plan from the Plans page at any time. Every plan’s button there, Move down to Free included, opens Shopify’s own plan page, where you pick the plan and approve it. Clicking the button in Ovation changes nothing by itself. Your offers, their wording and their numbers all stay as they are, and choosing a paid plan starts them again immediately if the free cap had paused them.

Uninstalling Ovation turns your offers off and sets your plan back to free. Your offers, your figures and any A/B test still running are kept (the test paused), so a reinstall finds them where you left them, ready to turn back on. 48 hours after an uninstall, Shopify asks Ovation to erase your store’s data, and all of it is deleted then.
